Triangles, Angles & More: Hands On Geometry

Hi Manoj, As we get closer to the end of the year, you are likely gearing up to teach some geometry concepts. Oftentimes, geometry topics come at the end of the book, and can sometimes get skipped or glossed over as less important. But exploring shapes, their properties and their measurements can provide such FUN topics and can provide a break from more rigorous computation. So if your kids are feeling a little frazzled and frustrated, maybe it's time for some hands on geometry . The beautiful thing about geometry is that it is already, inherently visual . So students can actually play with and see the math they're learning rather than simply being told it's true. Have you ever thought about what makes a triangle a triangle ? And although you might know that the sum of the angles in a triangle equals 180 degrees, can you prove it ? And for older students, a useful application of similar triangles is indirect measurement . How can you use

No-Prep Test Prep? Yes, please!

Hi Manoj, As the temperature gets warmer and the days get longer, I've got next year on my mind. As a homeschool mom, it's about this time of year that I start looking ahead and thinking through what classes we'll cover next year, what curriculum I need to buy and what all the options are for my kids. But before I get too far ahead of myself, getting super excited about next year and all the fun new things we'll learn, I have to actually finish this year ! And that means finishing well and ensuring I weave in enough math review that my kids don't forget all the important things we've covered this year. If you're a classroom teacher, maybe you're in the same boat, with end-of-year or standardized tests looming . Or maybe you've got kids with learning gaps or skills they never *really* mastered and you want to provide the tools they need to finish well before sending them off to a new grade and classroom. But find
