Hi Manoj,
I hope you've had a restful break so far! Ours has been a little more hectic than normal...but I'm thankful for a couple of days with nowhere to go and no school to do.
Before we head into the new year, I thought I would share a few of my 'problem of the day' resources and make sure you have a chance to grab the free January calendars in time for the new year!
And just a quick note: If you are a member of Math Geek Mama+, ALL of the upper level calendars and problem of the day slides are available on the member site! Not a member yet? Learn more and join right here to access the entire library of resources for grades 5-8.
(Of course, if you're still enjoying your break and have no interest in thinking about school or plans or routines just yet, that's ok too! Take time to rest and recharge, friend. These resources aren't going anywhere.)
FREE January 2024 Problem of the Day Calendars:
I am excited to share that my problem of the day calendars are completely updated to correspond to the 2024 calendar year and you can grab the January set for FREE!
This includes 3 different levels in one download, so hopefully one of these will work for you and your students.
The fun twist of these calendars is that each day, the solution is equal to the date. This makes it 'self checking' for your students, or can be cut up to create a fun math puzzle.
This can be combined with daily calendar time, or sent home for families to talk math at home during the month. It's up to you!

Math Problem of the Day for Google Slides:
If you're looking for something a little more versatile, you may prefer my Math Problem of the Day Bundles.
There are 4 different levels, so hopefully you can find one that works for your grade level.
Each bundle includes:
- 12 sets of Google Slides with different themes for each month
- 20 daily math review problems for each month
- 1 blank slide for each month so you can add additional problems to differentiate
- Printable math journal for students to record their answers
- Answer key
That means 240 daily math problems you can use all year! There's also a blank slide for each month so you can add additional problems if you need to, or just want to differentiate or focus on a specific concept.
One idea is to display the google slide at the front of the classroom, while students record their thinking in their printed math journals.
However, you could also let them type their answers directly onto the google slides (assign them in google classroom and make a copy for each student).
Lastly, if you prefer, you could also print the slides out 2 (or 4) per page and let students write their answers that way:
(You'll just want to delete the text prompts from the slides that say "type your answer here" before printing.)
What's unique about these prompts is that students record their thinking to justify their solution and are then challenged to create their own math problem with the same solution.
I hope this is a helpful resource for you as you prepare for the second half of the school year!
