[Math Geek VIP Days] Picture Book Math 📚

Hi Manoj,

Welcome back to Math Geek VIP Days!

This week I am hosting a series of "flash deals" so you can save money on resources your students will love. Today's deal?

>>Grab my Picture Book Math Kit for just $19!

My Favorite Reasons to Teach Math with Picture Books:

1. It's fun & engaging!

This may seem obvious, but for those kids who are reluctant when it comes to math (or anxious about it), or even kids who adore math, reading a story together is just plain fun. Especially if you choose great books! This is a wonderful way to ease kids in and spark some interest and conversation before getting into the nitty gritty math topics.

2. It's a low-floor.

For those kids who are anxious or struggling, it can be hard to draw them in and get them interested in a new math topic. They often check out before you've even started the lesson! But by incorporating a picture book, every single child can participate in listening to the story.

3. It can show math in real life.

Reading a great book can be an easy way to demonstrate how math is used or seen in real life (or at least in a meaningful context--I'm pretty sure the Sir Cumference stories are fictional!) This can help kids understand that math is all around us and show them that it really is a meaningful and important topic to study!

4. Books can help kids visualize math concepts.

Being able to visualize math problems and concepts is essential to learning math. But kids don't always have those visuals in their brain. They can't always come up with a visual on their own. But hearing a story and seeing the pictures in the book can give kids some great visuals to work with and help them to build an index of visuals they can use to solve future problems.

5. Books can spark great math discussions.

Lastly, engaging picture books can spark meaningful math talk in your home or classroom. Perhaps kids are curious about why something is true, or maybe it sparks questions about how to solve particular problems. Or maybe they want to know more about how the characters used math in that context, or want to go out and solve similar problems on their own. Whatever the case, books can jumpstart some great math conversation!

As you can see, I love reading enjoyable picture books with my kids as a way to talk about math, but the math learning doesn't have to stop there!

Over the years I have created dozens of math extension lessons to go along with all my favorite picture books.

And for today's flash deal, you can get the entire collection (that's printable lessons to use with more than 30 picture books!)

This includes lessons to use with every book in the "Sir Cumference" series, and every book in the "Warlord's" series (a great way to combine reading, math & a study of ancient China!).

It also includes lessons for 15 other stories that you will love, and can likely find at your local library.

These activities can be used with students in grades K-5, all for just $19!

Plus, if you're really excited about teaching & learning with picture books, but you're not sure where to start, you can grab the deluxe bundle, which includes my online course, Teaching Math with Children's Literature for just $39!

That means you get the online course + dozens of ready to use lessons for less than the cost of a math PD book.

One quick note: This bundle does NOT include the physical picture books, only the lessons to go along with them. You can find the books at your local library, or look for a reading of them on YouTube.

And don't forget, this sale ends in...
