Hi Manoj,
"Just do it and get it over with."
"No, don't do it that way..."
"Here, let me just tell you the answer."
It can often be hard and frustrating trying to teach a child who struggles with math. No matter what you do or how you teach a concept, they just seem to fight with it.
I know that in those moments it can be easy to lose patience, or join them in their frustrations, but in the long run, saying or doing these things will not help them.
As math teachers and parents, it's our job to encourage and equip kids to learn and love math. To imagine and believe that with hard work all students can succeed. But when you have a child who's resisting and telling you all the reasons why they can't do math, it can be easy to join them in their negative attitude or to give up on them.
Here are some common things you should never say to the child who struggles with math (or even a child who is good at math!) and what you can do or say instead. Together we can empower kids to have a positive math attitude!
5 Things You Should Never Say to the Child Who Struggles with Math
And if this post resonates with you, feel free to reply and share your thoughts! There are certainly other things we can add to this list, and discussing it together helps everyone!
Blessings,
