Not All Mistakes Are Equal

Hi Manoj, Do you ever find yourself frustrated that your students make the same mistakes again and again? If so, are you taking the time to dig a little deeper to discover where the mistakes are actually coming from? What's the root cause of the error? Well, today I want to encourage you that 1. Mistakes are indeed an important part of the math learning process and 2. Not all mistakes are equal. So first, we have to understand that when we make mistakes, various parts of our brain "light up" meaning there is growth that comes because of it. Recent brain research even indicates that this growth occurs even when we don't realize we've made a mistake . This is good, encouraging news for our students! Overcoming Negative Math Mindsets

Hi Manoj, "Just do it and get it over with." "No, don't do it that way..." "Here, let me just tell you the answer." It can often be hard and frustrating trying to teach a child who struggles with math. No matter what you do or how you teach a concept, they just seem to fight with it. I know that in those moments it can be easy to lose patience, or join them in their frustrations, but in the long run, saying or doing these things will not help them . Engaging Online Math Program for Ages 3-9

Hi Manoj, When my kids were little, I used a variety of resources to teach them to read, along with our core curriculum. One of my kids, however, struggled for quite some time, and so eventually we added daily practice with Reading Eggs to our school time. This bit of extra practice and support was just the thing my child needed and today is an avid reader. Because of the great experience we had with Reading Eggs, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to try out their math program, Mathseeds . If you're not familiar, Mathseeds is an online math program for ages 3-9 . Using short animated videos, catchy songs and practice activities, kids work at their own pace through the 200 lessons. There is also a placement test to get started, so if your child is older and doesn't need to start at the beginning, the placement test will ensure they start at the right point in the program.
